Mixed URL rewriting help

Postby michaelaugustine » Fri Mar 12, 2010 6:40 pm

Hi All

I am not sure if this is even the right topic this discussion fits in but I would like some assistance with URL rewriting in ,htaccess

currently I have the PHPBBSEO Mod installed and working with optional options selected as per the documentation and everything is indexing

however I want to do further customization

if one where to install the mod, by defualt tite tags display for categories and topics as

(FORUM INDEX TITLE) VIEW FORUM (CATEGORY) (TOPIC)

what i would like is for everything to display like this

(FORUM INDEX TITLE)(CATEGORY)
(FORUM INDEX TITLE)(TOPIC)

when i started using robots.txt and blocked viewforum.php and index.php this happened but I dont think unblocking is enough since what I am asking may not be possible due to options in the mod

does this make sense and can anyone help

BTW when i refer to forum index title I am refering to the title of the forum header on the top of every page in the forum

to see how my forum is indexed now use the following command in google

site:www.seo-specialist-online-forum.com

the reason I want to change this is I want to make everything currently indexed in google more discriptive titles

You could start with trying the optimal title mod.

About the robots.txt :
install.xml wrote:__________________
NOTE: robots.txt :
__________________

You will find a sample robots.txt file in the contrib/ folder of this package.
The robots.txt file must be uploaded in your domain's root folder (can be different from the phpBB one).
You must obviously replace phpbb/ with your real phpBB installation folder (or with nothing if it's installed in the domain's root).

IMPORTANT :
If your forum previously was indexed with the natural urls (viewtopic.php etc...), then you must make sure
that the robots.txt advised for our mod rewrite is not installed, if so DELETE it from the server.
This because we want to redirect old urls before we disallow them, it's CRUCIAL!
In such case, at least two after you activated the zero duplicate, you can safely implement the robots.txt.

So if your forum indeed previously was indexed, delete it ASAP, and in all cases make sure you also install the zero duplicate mod (with its posts redirection set to at least "guests").
