3.0.0 to 3.0.1 Problems

Postby alecrust » Tue Apr 08, 2008 5:42 pm

Hi guys,

So I have modded my forum quite alot, so I was first interested in the patch way of updating. This really confused me though (can anybody help me?) so I decided to go with the auto update way.

After uploading the /install directory, I was unable to go through the install process because it said there was an error in /includes/functions.php

I had a look at the line wher ethe error occured, and it was caused by the advanced SEO mod from here (which is great).

So I'm not sure what to do now. Can anybody teach me how to do a patch?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The short answer: It's a known problem and will be corrected in a phpBB-seo 3.0.1 equivalent at a later date. If you want to plow ahead, you could remove the modification to append_sid so the update completes w/o error. But that would imply that you're on your own if you encounter further errors.

My recommendation is to wait for the official release from dcz. There are enough problem reports on phpBB.com to warrant caution. Unless, of course, you're the type that enjoys finding problems for the benefit of others. In that case, go for it...

I have never used the new "updater" in phpBB 3.0 until yesterday. The documentation in the readme / install was enough for me. If you need further instruction, you would be better off asking here:

Thanks HB. The phpBB "updater" and "patch" are two different things.

OK, I guess I'll wait for a new release of your advanced SEO mod. Will I have to re-install it from scratch, or will you do a "changed files only" things like phpBB does?

Thanks again

ive got 33 mods on my board. I was able to merge all files except includes functions. The only way I found to update functions was to begin with a blank 3.0.1 and add all my mods back. The premod version is a little different than the mod versions so you can't use the file edits to update functions. Here is one with just the premod SEO additions

We provide auto update package in case you are using the premod : http://www.phpbb-seo.com/boards/phpbb-s ... t2383.html

Otherwise, you can do the update separately, but you'll need to do small trick to be able to use the regular phpBB updater. You'll need to use the original functions.php during the update and then, put the modded one up.
