Phpbb3 with advanced mod rewrite V0-4-4

Postby Mato » Wed Sep 03, 2008 2:49 am

Hello everybody, i have a problem with the instalation of this module.

I install xampp server in my pc, to test the migration from my PHPBB2 forum and see how it works.

I install the mod without problems, also already add the rewrite engine on into the xampp, and made the update to the files i need to change too.

I can see the module in the Control Panel of my PHPBB3, and i can activate without problems. I see the links with the seo name, so the mod works, but when i click on it i get 404 file not found.

I make the .htaccess and i save it at /root/clubber/forum/phpBB3/
Also i move it one level upside, from there to root, without results.

I make a new installation and i replace the configuration httpd file from my xampp server with new one who gives me a programmer friend.

I delete all my sites and install the phpbb3seo forum, with same results.

I make a new installation from phpbb3 in my server, and i give access to my programmer friend, then i give everything clean to him, and he do make all the changes and everything he needs, and he has the same problem as me!

After few hours editing files and i dont know what else, he make it work and i can see the page, but without the css style.

I dont know whats happen if i do it in my www server, or if the problem is in my xampp server or something else.

But as i told before i can see the correctly URL and all the links perfect, but when i click i get ERROR 404 FILE NOT Found.

Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

It should be no more than an .htaccess issue.

The default one is meant to be used in the domain's root dir, eg where -http://localhost/ goes in you case.

you can generate one to go in the phpBB dir using the "more options" option (and "alternate location") in the .htaccess generator. Make sure the local phpBB config is consistent with the local install as well, proper domains and paths.

Both method should work directly with xampp when mod_rewrite is activated (no slashes exceptions), but you need to make sure that only one .htaccess is set for phpBB, either in root or in phpBB dir, but not both.

Then, if it works but you cannot see the styling in your page, it means that you need to mod the templates file and clear the template's cache in the style acp.
