Well you can call it an rss feed feature, but phpBB feeds I'm afraid just cannot compare to GYM's.
First, since they are post centric, they just serve duplicate, so they are pretty much useless, if not harmful, SEOwise. Then, they are not as optimized as GYM's ones. GYM really is designed to allow a lot (but here it's really a lot) of followers. phpBB feeds just cannot beat :
rss/news/rss.xml- Code: Select all
<!-- URL list generated in 0.05883 s ( Mem Usage : 563.79 Kb ) - 8 sql - 60 URLs listed -->
<!-- Output started from cache after 0.00403 s - 3 sql -->
<!-- Output from cache ended up after 0.00517 s - 3 sql -->
0.004 s to generate all content from cache, and everything is sent after only 0.005s for 60 items.
0.058s to generate content and update cache is really good also.
And with content :
rss/news/digest/rss.xml- Code: Select all
<!-- URL list generated in 0.03585 s ( Mem Usage : 701.69 Kb ) - 9 sql - 15 URLs listed -->
<!-- Output started from cache after 0.00410 s - 3 sql -->
<!-- Output from cache ended up after 0.00494 s - 3 sql -->
It's even here a bit faster for 15 items, which is lower than 60 without content, but you have to take into consideration that GYM allows a very accurate filtering of the content displayed in feeds.
If you add the styling features and all the other (and they are many) options, phpBB feeds as implemented in 3.0.6 does not really compete with GYM's.
Now, since both can be turned on / off, it's really up to you to use the one you prefer, or all of them also. We did not rewrite the links in phpBB feeds because again, they is only post urls in there, so it's useless to work for dupes.
