How do I add META keywords manually?

Postby AVBrands » Tue Apr 10, 2012 10:06 am

Hello,
Can anybody help me?
I want to Add New Tittle , Meta keywords and Meta description to my forum.
But I can't find where is the right place to put the file.
When I open " overall_header.html " it seems very diferent from Original Source of the forum...

Meta1_001.jpg
overall_header.html

Meta2.JPG
Original Source

When I try to modified "overall_header.html" - it change appearance of my pages...
Where can I find this "Original Source" file to edit/replace it?!

Regards.

So with "Original Source" you mean what shows up when you open the index page of your forum in a browser, right click and choice "View Page Source"? This will always be different to what you see when opening /styles/prosilver/template/overall_header.html - e.g. {META_TAG} in the file = list of meta tags in the browser obviously.

There seems to be a problem with your style. Just an example:

Code: Select all
<!-- IF SEO_CANONICAL_URL --><link rel="canonical" href="{SEO_CANONICAL_URL}" /><!-- ENDIF -->

should show up as:

Code: Select all
<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/" />

in the "Original Source" view, which it doesn't. Are you using the phpBB-SEO preMod files, including the prosilver template? Have you cleared the board cache (delete everything in the /cache/ folder [NOT /phpbb_seo/cache/] except for .htaccess and index.htm).

Meta title, description, keywords... can be changed in Administration Control Panel -> phpBB-SEO -> Extended config section. http://www.example.com/phpbb_seo/phpbb_seo_related.php has to be installed first.
Title can be changed in ACP -> General -> Board settings -> Site name.
I install and configure phpBB-SEO (and other mods) for a fair price and very fast. If you are interested simply send me a private message.

Yes, exactly.

should show up as:

Code: Select all
<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/" />

It's done. Now looks like that:
OS2.JPG

Meta title, description, keywords... can be changed in Administration Control Panel -> phpBB-SEO -> Extended config section.

It's done but there is no effect in a broweser...

Title can be changed in ACP -> General -> Board settings -> Site name.

The same. I can change title in a board, but not in a browser...

Try clearing the board cache and your browser cache.

It would help if you provided a link to your forum, you can mask the address with an URL shortener like http://goo.gl/.

The URL rewriting does not work on your site (as you probably know), 404 errors for forum and topic URLs. Has it worked in the past?
This must be fixed first.

I checked the server headers, cookie settings are correct. Could you post the content of your .htaccess file please. And check your server settings.

When posting the .htaccess file in order to not give away your board URL, search for:

Code: Select all
# HERE IS A GOOD PLACE TO FORCE CANONICAL DOMAIN

In the following two lines remove your domain name.

At the moment your site is completely down:

Cannot connect to http://www.*yourdomain*.com:80: Connection refused

As the URL rewriting has already worked, can you remember changing anything that may have resulted in it not working anymore?

Your .htaccess file looks OK, as far as I can tell. Have you tried to use Options +FollowSymlinks and / or Options -MultiViews?

Ok, after activating SQL rewriting did you run http://www.yourdomain.com/phpbb_seo/sync_url.php ?
I don't know about your directory structure, but the "More Options" -> "Put the .htaccess in the phpBB folder" step shown in the video might not be right for you.

Once you are ready, you can select the .htaccess code, and paste it in a .htaccess file or use the "Save .htaccess" option bellow.
This .htaccess is meant to be used in the domain’s root folder, which in your case is where [full path] leads to in your FTP.
