Postby Professional » Fri May 24, 2013 6:02 am

hi.
i have recently moved from phpBB 3 to VB 4.2.1 every thing is ok but because i have moved my phpBB files now google gets 404 not found and it's very bad .

my old phpBB boad was at www.mobile4persian.net
and you can see the index status here

my new board location is at: http://forum.mobile4persian.net/

i have redirect the www.mobile4persian.net to http://forum.mobile4persian.net but i want to to redirect all old links to the Vb index.
my roo .htaccess is here now:

Code: Select all

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mobile4persian\.net$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.mobile4persian\.net$
RewriteRule ^/?$ "http\:\/\/forum\.mobile4persian\.net\/" [R=301,L]

and the .htaccess i have at forum is seperate as VB-SEO has generated it.

any help would be appreciated. :D

I can't answer that question, but here you will find help for sure: http://www.webmasterworld.com/apache/

Some people there know everything about rewrite rules.
I install and configure phpBB-SEO (and other mods) for a fair price and very fast. If you are interested simply send me a private message.

I hope you take the time to properly redirect thread URLs, not just to the index. Someone I know didn't bother and took a +30% traffic hit from Google. Months later and they still haven't recovered the page rank they spent years building up. Of course he hired some web developer on the cheap and said developer didn't give much thought to SERPs.

tnx if od htaccess of phpbb is required i can mention it here.

my reason for doing this is the google webmaster increase 404 error message that is because my phpbb content is not availabe anymore.

Sorry, I didn't realize you had a question there... yours looks like a standard "redirect www to non-www" case. For example, using http://www.scriptalicious.com/blog/2009 ... -htaccess/ as a template:

Code: Select all
# Redirect www to non-www:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.mobile4persian.net[NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://forum.mobile4persian.net/$1 [L,R=301]

Note this differs from your posted excerpt in several important ways (i.e., no capture with (.*) and $1).
