Google Analytics Not Tracking Urls

Postby Daniel43 » Fri Sep 27, 2013 10:34 am

I installed and configured SEO mod and now my pages are not being tracked in google analytics. I have the tracking code just as before so it's not that. I am sure it's something simple, but I cna't figure it out.

Maybe you're missing the include for GA's javascript? What's your board URL?

Here's my forum http://www.coinauctionshelp.com/forum/

I am using the same code and in the same spot as the last 4 years, and no problems until this SEO mod was installed a several days ago. Clicks just flatlined. It's something to do with the rewrites or the .htaccess but I can't figure it out.

You may want to double-check your GA code is running by moving it to the <header> section. GA doesn't care about the form of URLs or rewrites; it only knows what the browser knows. So if it's correct in your browser, the data should flow to GA.

I thought as much as well, then found the problem. I was accidentally using the tracking code one of my smaller sites, it was getting all the forum click tracking. Thanks for you replies.

Now I have to figure out why I can't update or add any mods. I am getting 404 errors when I click update index or the external page to install. I also can't get the Atom boards feeds to work, and never had nay of the trouble before SEO mod.

I wondered if it might be something like that, i.e., minor error in the JS code itself. Anyway, glad it's working again...

I've used the auto-update from one version of phpBB-SEO to another and it works without much trouble. But for smaller mods, I merge them manually following the standard XML instructions. Tools like Beyond Compare or WinMerge are quite helpful. At one time I relied on auto-mod tools, but invariably they would fail to merge as often as they worked, so I got into the habit of doing it "by hand".

My trouble is with updating the PHPBB3 from my current 3.0.11 version to 3.0.12. I clicked the install index and it gave me a 404 error.

I do agree with manual on the smaller modifications, it seems I end up doing those by hand in some amount or another.

I haven't tried updating to 3.0.12 because I'm waiting for the phpBB-SEO version of the change files; I advise you to do the same. dcz typically does the merge within a week. That said, I don't think your 404 errors have much to do with phpBB-SEO per se; that usually means you forgot to upload a file from the install.

Yeah, I know, but couldn't figure out what I was missing. I forgot to upload to my new directory for the forum, I had it changed and moved the forum, so my url would be SEO friendly. So I figured it out and thanks for all your replies. It's much appreciated.

Just need to get my ducks in a row after making all these changes. I wnet ahead and upgraded and yes there's some conflicts, so I won't force the issue until SEO version. Thanks for that info.
