Not sending notification emails when a reply is posted

Postby yogi3 » Thu Dec 19, 2013 7:50 am

My forum http://www.pronas.pl using version 3.0.12 and not sending notification emails when a reply is posted. I am using SMTP server, I setup package size to 0, I changed queue time to 6 seconds, I also tried to comment flush in cron.php, nothing helped.

Sending mass e-mails working without any issue, as well as registration confirmation and PW notification. Strange is that I cannot see queue.php in cache folder.

I checked "Notify me when a reply is posted" and yes I know how it should work, means that I don`t expecting a new email for every reply to the topic. I know it will get one email no matter how many replies were made to the topic since my last visit. Problem is that I never ever get even single e-mail that was sent as notification.

Any idea what else should I do to make it work ?

I saw your thread on https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2217651 ... since they seem to think it's related to phpBB-SEO (I doubt it, but hey, it could be), I would install the vanilla phpBB download on a separate directory pointing to the same database (modify config.php as required). If the problem still happens, then you know it's environmental. If it doesn't, well, time to insert some logging into the code.

I'd also check the ACP error logs in the Maintenance tab. Sometimes they contain useful information (see example below). Also check the php error log (see the php.ini for its location). By default, errors are not shown to the end user for security reasons, but they're logged to the server.

Code: Select all
E-mail error
» EMAIL/SMTP
/forums/posting.php

Ran into problems sending e-mail at Line 1144. Response: 421 4.7.0 Temporary System Problem. Try again later (MU).

I installed a fresh version of phpBB on the same server and everything works properly. In ACP error logs are empty. I asked server administrator to check php.ini and he told me that everything is OK.

I have no idea what else can I do :(

I made some test, I changed config.php in fresh phpbb to force it to connect to pronas.pl database. Then I checked emails notification and now I can confirm it is working. So I am sure that problem is not related to data base or to server, it is for sure code issue. Question is where is the bug, is there any way to debug it ?
