Well, the thing is I wanted a "fresh" start so the only thing I took from my live site was the database. I planned on installing SEO premod, importing my database, and then install any mods I wanted. Apparently that is not an easy thing to accomplish as the database comes with lots of remnants of my "live" mods still on it.

If you have access to phpMyAdmin you can easily drop the extra columns off the user table, etc. They're almost always added at the end after all the existing columns.

For the most part, extra columns left over from old mods won't hurt anything, but you may need to splice together the table creation commands when you go to import your existing database.

In general it's wise to uninstall mods first that added stuff to the database when doing a fresh install and use that more cleaner database backup.
You can always download the install.php or name_of_mod.php-file needed to uninstall a mod from http://www.phpbb.com/mods.

I highly recommend "Database Cleaner" from the Support Tool Kit (http://www.phpbb.com/support/stk/). It "allows you to reset certain parts of your phpBB boards database to its original setup (removes all database modifications)."
