Need some advice on PHPBB SEO installation.

Postby perfectecigarette » Sat Jul 18, 2009 10:23 pm

Ok sorry to be so noobish. I have a grip on programming for the most part. However I am at a complete loss on how to install the PHPBB SEO mod. I have uploaded the files where they are supposed to be. But I am just not finding where to go and add the code into the current PHPBB3 install to link them.

You know the open this file. Find this code. Enter this code before it. etc....

Can somebody please point me to where I should be changing files. I did not find a xml file in the download and must have looked at 10 threads but just cannot find what I am supposed to do next.

Thanks in advance.

I already have the forum setup and there are only about 18 posts on it so far. It does not seem to be indexed by google or anything yet. Could I install the premod and use the already created db and not loose anything?

It is not a matter of me making these 18 posts. They are mostly from presidents of companies. So I could not really go and make them all myself. Is there some sort of install instructions like in a xml file or something?

There are .txt files in the archive explaining how to install the mod, we're working on adding modx files ;)

For the SEO premod, if your forum is not modded at all, you can just overwrite all files from the premod's root/ directory of the archive except config.php and it should work just fine (you may need to activate SQL rewriting once and then set it to the value you want to have the proper fields in the db).

I encourage you to set up a local server if only to try the seo premod and better understand the possibilities to make better choices about your final url standard.

To tell you the truth it has been awhile since I used either. It seems like vb had a lot more mods and stuff. However you had to pay for 90% of them. So in a sense I am really liking phpbb for the fact that it is pretty much completely free.

There is a little learning curve but I am getting over it real quick :)

Is it indeed possible to have more mods than phpBB has ?

Anyway, I'm sure you won't regret phpBB ;)

I am still not sure where exactly to install the seo mod. I installed the root directory of premod in my domain.com/forums - and updated the common.php file code. Got an error - on mydomain.com/forums - "phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /common.php on line 223: require_once(./phpbb_seo/phpbb_seo_meta.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory"

Someone please help me asap!! I am total new to phpbb. I am not sure what i am doing wrong. was i supposed to install only the root directory or the whole mod? the instructions said - "file copy

Copy: root/*.*
To: phpBB/*.* "

so i copied root directory to mydomain.com/forums. - I am pretty sure I am doing something wrong - someone help me please.
