Topic URL's not Working

Postby kiwi-cruiser » Wed Jan 20, 2010 3:41 am

In the process of converting the -http://www.GT-Rider/thailand-motorcycle-forum/ V2.23 forum across to phpBB3 at -http://www.GT-Rider/phpbb3/

Installed the pre-modded version all by myself and it worked! No one was more surprised than me!

However, I have not been able to figure out the correct settings for the URL's. Currently the Forum URL's display correctly as per the old site, but Topic URL's are not working properly.

Example Forum:
-http://www.gt-rider.com/phpbb3/north-thailand-f3.html

Example Topic:
old -http://www.gt-rider.com/thailand-motorcycle-forum/general-knowledge-question-1-where-is-this-temple-t6895.html
new -http://www.gt-rider.com/phpbb3/topic6895.html

If anyone can assist in sorting this out, please PM me - I'm happy to reimburse you for your time etc.

Looks like you only need to select the advanced mode for url rewriting in the ACP.

Thanks for the suggestion... But that's not the solution to the problem. :-)

I've tried all the various options, but the only thing that allows the forum to function properly is turning phpBB SEO off. Of course, that's not really a viable solution to the upgrade process! :D

I'm not able to switch from the old phpBB2 until we figure out how to make the phpBB3 URLs reproduce precisely as before - creating 301 Redirects for several thousand forum posts is not a solution either!

Cheers

But you don't need to care this much about keeping the exact same urls, all you have to do to redirect all phpBB2 URLs to the new phpBB3 ones is to turn on the zero duplicate (with the pose redirection option set to at least "guests") and to connect the old phpBB2 rewriterules to phpBB3 scripts in phpBB3 .htaccess, example : Converting From phpBB 2 with AMR to phpBB 3 with AMR

Then, if turning the url rewriting mode to advanced does not change your topic urls, it's most likely because you are using SQL rewriting and synchronized your topic urls before this, just use the sync script to 1) empty all the topic urls and 2) re-sync them in advanced mode.
