The following is useful if you're new to phpBB-SEO:

[HOW TO] Install the phpBB SEO premod on phpBB
How to set up a local server using xampp
phpBB Server and Cookie settings

=> For a smooth install:
1) Backup all your files; (I also recommend a database backup, just to be absolutely safe).
2) Apply the mod code changes on copies of your files;
3) Upload all files;
4) CHMOD the phpbb_seo/cache/ folder to 0777;
5) Empty the phpBB/cache/ folder : just delete all files EXCEPTS the .htaccess.
6) Go to yoursite.com/phpBB/phpbb_seo/phpbb_seo_install.php and follow the install instruction
7) Go to phpBB ACP : It's now time to play with settings described bellow;
8 Generate your personalized .htaccess and upload or move it following the instructions;
9) Test a rewritten URL, such as yoursite.com/phpBB/post1.html, if you end up with a 404 (not a phpBB message), go back to step 8;
10) Activate URL rewriting in phpBB ACP and allow yourself some auto-congratulation
I install and configure phpBB-SEO (and other mods) for a fair price and very fast. If you are interested simply send me a private message.

I do my best. ;) You didn't upload the files correctly :

...yourdomain.com/root/phpbb_seo/phpbb_seo_install.php

It seems you uploaded the "root" folder, but you should upload what is inside to the directory where phpBB is installed.

From install.xml:

Copy: root/*.*
To: *.*

As you are using a customized style you also have to apply the necessary code changes to the "Supernova" template files.

HI there, sorry to resuscitate this old topic.
BTW, I am new to this forum and to phpBB as well.
Long story short, I have recently converted an existing vBulletin installation into a phpBB one.
Which means, all users, messages, etc were copied into the phpBB installation.
However I would like to have the same SEO friendly URLs that I had in vBulletin.

Therefore my question is: is it advisable to follow the procedure outlined above with a converted installation?
Or is there an alternative procedure in cases like mine?
Thanks.

PS: my phpBB installation is a plain 3.0.11 one, no Premod.
