SEO'ing links

Postby allingeneral » Mon Aug 25, 2008 10:00 pm

I have a script that fires up a few phpbb variables and displays a list of recent topics external to the forum (i.e. I can copy the script to another documentroot and call it local to a different website that I own).

I have Advanced SEO URL running on my forum (phpBB3). How can I implement these SEO URLs on the external script? Currently, my URLs are of the form:

Code: Select all

I guess I can just add an include or two to my script and call the URL rewrite functions, but I'm not sure which are required.

Can you help me out a little?

Thanks in advance!

It depends.
The phpbb_seo class has become more dependent with phpBB3 than it was with phpBB2.
So it's pretty easy if your script is using phpBB3's code (eg inludes common.php), but it's harder to make it working when you don't. Not that it would be this difficult to run the phpbb_seo class totally outside phpBB3 (you could fill a config array and few other global variable prior to start the class to provide with the fields used in the constructor if you code a bit), at least for the general case since we deal with a lot of options.

Another solution is to use the GYM sitemaps & RSS feeds, together with a basic feed parser such as the one that is used in the mod to output link lists everywhere in phpBB3, example :

Tell me more about your script if you want more help ;)
