phpbb in folder

hi,

i would like to upgrade my phpbb forum v2 to the latest phpBB SEO Premod version.

my previous phpbb was installed in the root of my domain, but to avoid clutter, i would like to install this new version in a folder on my domain.

so far so good.

is it possible to have this setup and still have my URL's point to the right place: mysite.com/hello-this-is-a-post.html

as opposed to: mysite.com/PHPBB/hello-this-is-a-post.html

my site is well spidered in search engines and would like to keep it that way.

i beleive to achieve what i want i have to play around with .htaccess

any thoughts?

thank you!

Then you can activate the virtual root option in acp, that's exactly what the mod will do, simulate a root install for rewritten urls while phpBB is installed in a sub dir.

Since your phpBB2 install was using some url rewriting, you need to make sure you'll properly redirect phpBB2's url to the new one. If the previous url rewriting was using the same delimiters (-f and -t) it should be ok as his (to be validated and tested though). But if the url standard was a bit different, you'll need to keep at least some of the old rewriterules in your new .htaccess to let the zero duplicate do it's job.

If you have doubts, please post here your old .htaccess (the phpBB2 one) ;)

thank you very much for your help!

i'm starting to get things going now...

this i don't understand:

i did activate the virtual root option
when i go to my site: example.com

i immediately get redirected to example.com/forum.html
where i get the message the forum you requested does not exist

where does that forum.html come from?
even if i change it in .htaccess, i'm still being redirected there....

thank you

ps. all my other forum redirections work fine
