Can't get it to work:
OK I got by my 404 errors by correcting the .htaccess BUT now when I click on a post I get:

The forum you selected does not exist. I HAD to select ALL on post redirects to get this MOD to work. The default was OFF there was no mention in the instructions to change it to ALL. When I used the other selections I got the same error. It is working now but why do I have to select ALL on post redirects in SEO ACP to get it to work? ONe would think that the default setting was there for a reason and would work?

It should not happen, and actually, it pretty weird if a post url can be a 404 but can as well be redirected (implying that it is not a 404 at first).

Could you post here the guilty url for the 404 ?

The post redirection option you're mentioning should be set to at least "guests", unless you actually want the post url to be indexed which implies many duplicate.

Thank you for your reply. Strangely URL re-rewriting is now working fine by selecting Off in post redirects. Is Off best for google/seo or do you recommend one of the other options below for optimization. Thanks for your effort on this MOD. When I checked my forum spiders/bots visitation I noticed that since I had installed this SEO Mod I haven't had a google-bot visit for over a week. I used to have them more frequently. Did my "All" redirects have a negative impact? A week after readking posts here, I went into my forum permissions and set all the forums for Bot access. Not sure if this will help or not.

Posts Redirections:
This option will determine how to handle post urls; it can take four values :

* off, do not redirect post url, whatever the case,

* post, only make sure postxx.html is used for a post url,

* guest, redirect guests if required to the corresponding topic url rather than to the postxx.html, and only make sure postxx.html is used for logged users,

* all, redirect if required to the corresponding topic url.

I doubt that these two facts are related by ore than coincidence. You may just be using a host that does not activate mod_rewrite all the sudden when you upload you first .htaccess requiring it.
This can append with godaddy the first time you upload an .htaccess, and then start to work after up to few hours, after what, .htaccess updates will be taken into account instantly, as it first should in the general case.

Anyway, if you had to give read and view access to your forums for bots, it seems to imply that it was not the case before, so it is of course better now that bots can visit your forum and read it's content.

For the post redirection options, my first advice is still on :

Dcz, for post redirections, the "ON" option is not available only these below:

* off, do not redirect post url, whatever the case,
* post, only make sure postxx.html is used for a post url,
* guest, redirect guests if required to the corresponding topic url rather than to the postxx.html, and only make sure postxx.html is used for logged users,
* all, redirect if required to the corresponding topic url.

Which one do you recommend? thanks

By at least "guest", I mean either "guest" or "all" ;)
