Postby sydneycollins3 » Fri Jul 03, 2009 11:15 am

I installed phpbb 3.02 seo pre mod for a friend last year.

I want to upgrade to phpbb 3.05 seo pre mod. What are the things I should do and should watch out for?

I also saw something about virtual folder. Kindly enlighten me please.

This will be a fairly easy update. You simply need to use the 3.0.5 premod and update as if you were updating a normal board.

Here is the update notes from the install file.
________________________________________
>>>> UPDATE INSTRUCTION <<<<<
________________________________________

Update 3.0.4 => 3.0.5 :
First, go to http://downloads.phpbb-seo.com/seo-url-premod-12/
where you'll be able to download the update packages
You can update using two method :
1) Auto updating : "3.0.4 to 3.0.5 Auto update"
- Upload the auto_update/install/*.* folder of the update package to install/*.*
- Go to ACP => SYSTEM and follow instructions.
The auto update method will take the eventual code change you have made into account,
and will attempt to merge the new files with your online modified ones.
It's the safest method for most, the installer will tel you if it has trouble to update some files.
2) Manual updating : "3.0.4 to 3.0.5 Changed Files"
You'll find the modified file list in the modified/ folder of the update package.
- Upload / merge / overwrite all file,
- Upload the modified/install/*.* to install/*.*,
- Run www.example.com/phpbb/install/database_update.php to update the DB.

This update will not change any of your current URL settings, but it will add some new one.
You WILL have to update you .htaccess once done.
The phpbb_seo_class.php file does not hold static part and delimiters customisation any more, these are now set in the phpbb_seo/includes/setup_phpbb_seo.php. If you customized your default delimiters, static part etc, you will have to set them up in that file. Please read what's said bellow for more details about how to do it.

Once you will have updated, you will have to refresh your theme's cache as well as phpBB's cache (ACP => STYLE, Themes => Refresh).

We have included the mod GYM Sitemap & RSS, but we kept the install separated
see bellow to install.

To update GYM from all 2.0.x (phpBB3) versions you will have to upload all files in the root/ directory of the archive to your phpBB/ ftp directory, after you will have taken care manually of the eventual code change you would have implemented in the template files (directory phpBB/styles/, .html, .js and .xsl) added by the module.
Once done, just lunch the update script (example.com/phpBB/gym_sitemaps/gym_install.php).
Your settings will be kept during the update porcess.

IMPORTANT :
GYM sitemaps and RSS is likely to be updated before the premod, it will be up to you to
keep it up to date meanwhile, you can be notified about updates by subscribing to the release thread while logged in :
GYM Sitemaps & RSS module 2.0.RC5

Remember, it is always important to read the included information and especially with the mod's on this site.

If you have any trouble, feel free to ask here, as usual, we always recommend doing these types of things on a local server first to make sure you won't have any problems on the live site.

Good luck.

Will I have to upgrade from the 3.02 currently on the board to 3.04 first?

if so, how do go about it?

Thanks for your help in advance.

You have a couple choices, you could download the phpBB3.0.4 install files and go ahead and update the proper way using that, or, you can use the 3.0.2->3.0.5.diff patch file that can be found in the contrib folderwith a program such as Tortoise to patch all your files from 3.0.2 to 3.0.5, after which you could run the updater like normal.

The diff patches are intended for more advanced users and I would personally recommend the normal setup method using the phpBB installer unless you know what your doing..

Good luck.

I've another thing troubling me.

Do I upgrade with normal phpbb or the premods.

I want to do it step by step:

1. 3.02 -> 3.03
2. 3.03 -> 3.04
3. 3.04 -> 3.05

Should I use premod version of phpbb for every step or for only the last step.

Thanks in advance for your help.

With the premod, only use the premod update packages.

But since you're jumping several version at a time, I'd advise you to go for a frontal merge using winmerge or beyondcompare. It may seems rude at first, but it actually is the fastest way to update several version at a time and to do ti safely. It of course implies that you set up a local test server to try it all before you go online, but in the end, you should do it pretty quick, and a lot quicker the next time.

Once the files are up to date, eg you compared your forum with the latest premod's root/ directory, than just hit install/database_updated.php and you'll be done ;)
