Error after update 3.04 to 3.05 - mySQL general error

Postby Rick_M71 » Sun Aug 23, 2009 4:27 am

Made the huge mistake of not backing up this time when updating and of course my board is currently toast. After doing the update (I have the NV recent threads on the front page) I initially got an error that went away when I removed the /install directory. Now I get the following error:
Code: Select all
Return to the index page General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 4 [1064]

SQL

SELECT forum_id, forum_topics FROM phpbb_forums WHERE forum_type = 1 AND forum_topics <

BACKTRACE

FILE: includes/db/mysql.php
LINE: 174
CALL: dbal->sql_error()

FILE: gym_sitemaps/includes/gym_rss_functions.php
LINE: 65
CALL: dbal_mysql->sql_query()

FILE: gym_sitemaps/includes/gym_common.php
LINE: 117
CALL: get_gym_links()

FILE: includes/functions.php
LINE: 3674
CALL: obtain_gym_links()

FILE: index.php
LINE: 156
CALL: page_header()

Please notify the board administrator or webmaster:

Please help! The sooner the better as I continue to search for solutions. I tried re-uploading the updated files and it made no difference. I'm wondering if the mysql database got corrupted during the update?

Okay - reading some other threads, I went into config.php and removed the hash marks so I could see more debugging code. Doing that showed an error in one of the gym sitemap files. As I don't recall ever modifying those (maybe for Nv Recent threads??) I went ahead and just overwrote the entire directory with the new files. Amazingly - that seems to have fixed the problem. I'm going to see if it is all working, but at least I was able to get my site back online.

Nothing feels worse than having your site down, not knowing what it'll take to get it back, AND thinking you lost all of the forum threads since the last full backup.

Main lesson - don't forget to backup your files!

I guess maybe not - I just went through the /install/ directory and followed the directions. I thought that those files were merged/updated with my current files. Perhaps not. Either way, that aspect of my site seems to be working now. Still working on the other issue on NV Recent Topics - not sure the other thread addressed my issue.

Yes, the files are updated by the auto updater, but as said in the install and release threads, you need to visit the gym update script after you update phpBB.

For nv, let's use the other thread you posted, I linked to a topic where the new code to use is provided.
