As I am sure you eventually realized after taking your time to post asking for help in like 4 separate forums, there are instructions included with each and every one of our mods, in fact, some people think there are too many instructions included, on top of that there are topics all over this site with even more instructions and how-to's almost everywhere you look.

We are very busy and short handed so sometimes a post is missed all together or it takes us a long time to reply and for that I apologize.

It is always best to try and help yourself first which you seem to have figured out. Keep in mind, we don't get payed for this, it is out free time that we are giving up.

Before you start, read this with caution.
=> For a smooth install :
1) Backup all your files;
2) Apply the mod code changes on copies of your files;
3) Upload all files;
4) CHMOD the phpbb_seo/cache/ folder to 0777;
5) Empty the phpBB/cache/ folder : just delete all files EXCEPTS the .htaccess.
6) Go to yoursite.com/phpBB/phpbb_seo/phpbb_seo_install.php and follow the install instruction
7) Go to phpBB ACP : It's now time to play with settings described bellow;
8) Generate your personalized .htaccess and upload or move it following the instructions;
9) Test a rewritten URL, such as yoursite.com/phpBB/post1.html, if you end up with a 404 (not a phpBB message), go back to step 8;
10) Activate URL rewriting in phpBB ACP and allow yourself some auto-congratulation

Hi,

I have been having difficulties install the Premod on top of an existing board, and ended up doing a clean install of the SEO Premod. The board itself is now set up and working properly. I have also generated the personalised .htaccess and uploaded to the root of the site. However, when I activate URL Rewriting, the links on the forum seems to have been rewritten, but all I got when clicking on these links were 404 errors.

I've followed the suggestion in the above post and go back to Step. 8 and try to change the .htaccess settings in various combinations but no luck. Is there an optimum set of settings that will work in most cases? Could you be a bit more specific what I need to do when going back to Step. 8 ? Your help is much appreciated thanks a lot!!!

When it generates the htaccess for you, are you moving it where it belongs (either in the forums root or the sites root depending on settings)??

I have tried both locations but neither worked. I have ISAPI_Rewrite 2 installed on IIS, instead of ISAPI_Rewrite 3, and because I have rewrite rules already specified for other sites on the same server, I don't really want to risk upgrading to ISAPI_Rewrite 3. Does the SEO MOD need ISAPI_Rewrite 3 to function properly?
