post topic rewrite

Postby fernandoch » Thu Oct 08, 2009 6:57 pm

I would like to get my topic URL rewritten...

For example instead of

-www.example.com/topic1.html

to get

-www.example.com/welcome-to-phpBB3.html

In which mode can I get that? And which option is it?

Thank you.

ok, and then what else should I enable?

I have also read that this forum is using the mixed mode, and they have this option enabled. Check this

It is midnight my time too.

The only thing I do not understand is why this does not work in mixed mode... It should work according to the installation manual!

Just to clarify, URL rewriting should be activated for it to work...

IMPORTANT :

Before you start, read this with caution.
=> For a smooth install :
1) Upload all files from the root/ directory of the package to where you would like to see phpBB installed
(phpBB/ or in domain's root) and lunch yoursite.com/phpBB/ (or yoursite.com/) in your browser;
2) Follow the installation / conversion / upgrade steps;
3) Go to phpBB ACP : It's now time to play with settings described bellow;
4) Generate your personalized .htaccess and upload or move it following the instructions;
5) Test a rewritten URL, such as yoursite.com/phpBB/post1.html, if you end up with a 404 (not a phpBB message),
go back to step 5;
6) Activate URL rewriting in phpBB ACP and allow yourself some auto-congratulation :D
7) Activating the Zero duplicate is wise at this point.
We advise to set the post redirection option to at least "Guest" unless you know what you are doing.

Point 6 is pretty clear about activating url rewriting to activate url rewriting (sic). And mixed mode does rewrite topic urls statically (topicxx.html) by default (you can though set custom url on a per case basis with the sql rewriting option).
Then, if you already synchronized your topic urls (when using sql rewrite) and later change the url rewriting mode, topic url will only start to be in advanced mode by default after the change, the topic posted before this will stay as they are unless you first empty your topic urls in the db and then re-sync. All of this is pretty logical, since you would not want all your topic urls stored in db to be loss if you accidentally change the url rewriting mode.
