Installing SEO premod 3.0.12 on 3.0.12 with some MODS

Postby CancunManny » Fri Oct 18, 2013 9:29 am

Hello, I am somewhat of a newbie to the PHPBB world. I have been working for about a month now on creating my phpbb site, www.CancunManny.com About a week ago or so, the .12 release came out, and when I did the auto update, it was able to compare my files, find my mods, give me the option to merge them, allow me to download them, then gave me the option to manually upload them telling me exactly where to put them.

Would there be a similar way to do the same thing with SEO premod? I do know the importance/value of having the SEO mod, but the tought of having to start from a fresh install kinda kills me. Any and all help is really appreciated!

I would start with the premod and merge changes manually using WinMerge or Beyond Compare. I recommend testing on a local server: How to set up a local server using xampp.

Thanks for the quick replies. I did graduate with a BS in IT back in 2003. Back then I used to get hacked windows licenses and pretty much hacked lisenses for all premisum software. Since then I got older and a bit wiser, and I realized I would spend much time chasing solutions whenever software would stop working. For about 5 years I stopped using windows all together, and use only ubuntu boxes.

At a quick glance, it seems Win Merge and Beyond Compare are both windows based. I could install WINE or windows X system, but it has its drawback, so I rather not go that route. Are there any other alternatives? Perhaps manually installing SEO onto my existing phpbb?

Those are just two options; there's plenty of freeware source control merge tools (hint: try this neat search tool called "Google"). I use Eclipse PHP, though its merge isn't super fancy. Still, it's good enough to do just about any merge I've needed. Select one project, another project, select "Compare to > Each Other". The stock left/right merge editor is OK. The good news is it runs on Windows, MacOS, Linux, etc. and it's free.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post. I do try to be self sufficient as much as I can, but as I mentioned I am very much a newbie with phpbb and php for that matter. I wouldn't have know to search for source control merge tools.

I was reading this thread on this site Ultimate SEO URL for phpBB 3.0.11 and it mentions: .........just install VANILLA PHPBB (from the phpbb site) and then install the addons you need/like manually. Each add-on has specific instructions, just follow them. (this was for phpbb 3.0.11) The link, on the thread I posted actually has the link to download premod SEO 3.0.12 but it is the full install with no instructions. Is there a way I can download the 3.0.11 with instructions on how to manually install just the mods I want to install? I did some google, and it seems if I manually install the mods, it should work even do I am on .12 release.
