I could REALLY use some help :(

Postby finallygreen » Sat May 09, 2009 6:14 pm

So late last year, I decided it was time to install the advanced mod rewrite on my forum. However, I never even got past the pre-install steps :( I noticed that, as explained here in this forum, I was going to get penalized by the search engines for the fact that I had the same content coming up at -www.mysite.com/forum as I did forum.mysite.com. I made a post about this here, but as you can see, we never solved the problem. Being that I was having such a headache before even starting the main project, I gave up :(

Now, I REALLY must somehow make this happen....I'm ready to hire someone if that's what it takes, but I have to get this done. So today I began writing out a proposal to have someone do this for me, and in the midst of that I decided to go ahead and download the mods. Well guess what? It says access denied now...I can't even download the mods anymore!

So you see how truly screwed I am here.....not only is this something I wanted (and tried) to do almost half a year ago, but now I'm even further off than before.....literally all I have done to this point is the guest session mod (which I'd already done before I started trying this last year).

What I want is an htaccess file that always redirects forum.mysite.com to -www.mysite.com/forum, the Advanced Mod Rewrite installed, and then something that will generate a sitemap for the search engines for me (which become yet another source of confusion for me, since I couldn't figure out the difference between this one and this one...although I guess it doesn't matter since the site wouldn't let me download either one).

I'm sure I'm coming off really whiney at this point and I'm sorry....but I'd REALLY like some help accomplishing this for my forum, and am more than willing to pay someone for the help if need be.

Well, you should have answer to dcz post before you did : always rewrite -www.mysite.com/forum as forum.mysite.com?

Try again it will work.

The difference between mx sitemaps and GYM sitemaps for phpBB2 is that the first will build html sitemap pages, and the second will build xml google sitemaps. Both are useful. With phpBB3, we included the html sitemaps in GYM.

Since phpBB2 is not supported any more, I would suggest to spend your effort on phpBB3 starting from now, especially since our SEO premod is as easy as phpBB to install ;)
