phpbb href links

Postby tweety » Wed Apr 18, 2007 10:33 pm

I just notice that the links on phpbb main index site and same on my test forum has href links

so example on the index page it has all categories and forums as href= instead of full url like you have here
they just show links such as href=/example-f1.html and same for all links on index and forum.

how do i get them to show like here with full url?
do i have to put something in overall header tpl

Well, this is usually not needed at all, here we needed to deal with virtual folders.

And this is adding up to 20% to the page's size in ko.

Besides, on phpBB2, there is no really easy way to do this, but it's possible that I implement a trick (optional since it's not often required even SEOwise) in the phpBB mod rewrites to do so ;)

Q: do relative links count as possible duplicate links? and do they make it easier for copy sites to steal your content?
If so! how about a href base ref in header? i have read about this, do you know if this would help?

Well, relative and absolute internal linking is pretty much the same, they are not duplicate and they do not change anything when stealing content.
Of course, if someone would want to steal content, he could use you page as is with only relative links, where with absolute one he'd have to change the domain to his, but, this does not really make any differences since we can mass search and replace ...
The base href would only be required in case you'd be using broken relative links, for example when using virtual folders.

To conclude, if your links works, to does not really matter if they are absolute or relative, as long as they work, it's pretty much the same.
Now, some will argue that repeating your domain name can help out a little for the domain keyword density, but i doubt it makes a really difference SEO wise.

The real matter is are your link working ;)
