Well, we developed the zero duplicate, ti would really be a pity if we would not use it
And ultimatehandyman, if phpBB2 will of course remain widely used for a long time, I think everybody using it will one day or the other have to update to phpBB3.
It's not something you should do right now, or even in the next year most likely, but if you have plans on the long run for you project, you should start using phpBB3, even only on a local test server, in order to slowly, but surely prepare yourself for when it will really be required.
This because phpBB2 should from now only be updated for security issue, no feature will be added by the phpBB group, it's for example not even sure there will be an official php5 version of phpBB2.
For sure, the community being really big, we can be confident there will still be some mod developed for phpBB2, but this is the beginning of the end of phpBB2 I'm afraid.

Why the sense of urgency? What new features in phpBB v3 are driving you to adopt it so quickly? I looked hard and long; bookmarks, friends/foes, performance, tableless design, lots of ACP improvements. But nothing that made me say "Oh, I simply must have this now!"
BTW, I did install it on a test server and the very slick database conversion utility went smoothly. Even so, I've got lots of mods on V2 and it would take me weeks to sort through them, decide which are worth keeping, migrate them to V3... I'm in no rush.
