well, assuming that the guy was talking about the SEO efficiency of our url rewriting mods and not about the fact that they do work as expected, he was wrong.

The fact that so many topics are missing in google's index on such an authority site should be enough to end the discussion.
This being said, and again, since I already elaborated on this in the mentioned phpBB.com's thread, this does not mean that phpBB3 should be different, it's just perfect as it is, since SEO technique are not useful in all cases, and even more since no seo trick can be universal, it's always something that should be included in a wider strategy and related to the whole marketing strategy.
In few words, this means that all site's are and should be unique. SEO is optimization of content's impact in SE, all content cannot be treated equally when it comes to reaching wider audiences.
But for sure in many cases, well used SEO technique will provide with a significant boost.
