I have looked at it several times, but I'm not exactly sure what it does

Does this mod help with SEO of phpbb forums?

If so is it difficult to install?

The mods adds meta tags to your forum pages (index, categories, forums and topics).

Things like :

no
its very easy to install. you must edit only 6 file.
you can install it in less than 5 min
