Strange Google results on moved threads

Postby daddyo » Sun Oct 28, 2007 2:56 pm

Google is redirecting to threads that are in my closed forum and this is the resulting URL:

Is this an issue when moving threads into a closed forum?

At one time, this thread might have been Googled as

But since I moved it into a special, locked-down forum, Google can't get to it anymore and phpBB returns the other link I posted above.

It's no big deal as long as you disallow login.php in your robots.txt as advised with all url rewriting mods released here.

In such case, Google will be HTTP 302 redirected to the login page, as all guests, and while it will at first keep the original url in it's index, it will still apply the disallow on login.php and drop the page from the index.

Thanks again.

On a hugely unrelated note, I just noticed your search page has Google Custom Search on it. Do you have the code that you used for that? I'd like to monetize my site just a tad more and am not creative enough to figure out how to put google's customer search box on my search page like you.

I just set up a custom search engine : http://www.google.com/coop/cse/

And put the code in the search_body.tpl template. The only "trick" is that I surrounded the search box with a nice and heavy subsilver table. Look at the source code of our search page, you'll see it's pretty obvious.
