Optimal Title and description

Postby sharkbait » Thu Dec 04, 2008 7:32 am

I just upgraded my forum from phpbb 3.0.2 to 3.0.3 via the automatic update package from phpbb.

I know it messed up my titles, because the "View Topic" was added to the titles. I have updated the phpbb-seo title mod and the "view topic" is still there.

I deleted everything in the cache folder except the .htaccess file and cleared the cache from the ACP but the "view topic" is still in the title.

It also messed up my description mod or will that be corrected when I update the description mod from phpbb-seo to the new version?

The keywords is still working fine.

Since I couldn't get the titles corrected I stopped before making any additional changes.

Thanks,
Al

Fixed part of the problem.

phpbb3 automatic update package never merged the meta tag mod in the viewtopic.php file just replaced it and I know I said merge and made mistakes in merging the functions.php

To fix I viewed the .bak files and inserted the phpbb-seo update into the new phpbb files.

Still have problem with "view topic" in title, but expect I'll find that problem and fix it the same way.

Here is the title:
Shark Attack on View topic - 11/10/2008 Chen Te-hsing ( Tawian ) ***Fatal*** Shark Attack

Part of building the title is working, I just need to get rid of the words "view topic"

Have any idea which file could be corrupt.

This new version does a great job of building keywords much better than the previous version.

Thanks

The optimal title mod is pretty tiny as a mod, so the easiest would probably be to do as if you install it on your updated files, and just make sure that all the code is there.

Once done, refresh your templates using the style tab in acp.

File = viewforum.php

Found a problem but know exactly how to fix it.

Code: Select all
// www.phpBB-SEO.com SEO TOOLKIT BEGIN - META
$seo_meta->meta['meta_desc'] = $seo_meta->meta_filter_txt($forum_data['forum_name'] . ' : ' . (!empty($forum_data['forum_desc']) ? $forum_data['forum_desc'] : $config['site_desc']));
$seo_meta->meta['keywords'] = $seo_meta->make_keywords($seo_meta->meta['meta_desc']);
// www.phpBB-SEO.com SEO TOOLKIT END - META
page_header($forum_data['forum_name'] . $extra_title);
// www.phpBB-SEO.com SEO TOOLKIT END - TITLE

I do have the description and keyword added, but they appear to be mixed up.

Does this look good to you or can you provide me with the proper code.

In this piece of code the title mod's code is supposed to be just above the first line you posted.

I know that the title, description and also H1, H2, H3 have to be very relevant.
