Link baiting is relating to building attractive contents on your site which will make people want to link to you.

For exemple you post on your blog something awesome and then many other sites link to that (you get many free backlinks) = link bait

Link bait is not that, It's a link on a website at a place which shows up on many pages, link in header or footer or any menu which shows on many or every page of a website, with that one can have a lot of links from the same website.
