The issue with social networking sites is that most use rel="nofollow" for their links, so you won't get any SEO benefit really. However, users can still click on those links so you may be able to drive some traffic to your site with Social Networking sites. For example, you could use Twitter to redirect users to your website. If you have a lot of followers on Twitter then a lot of people may see the tweet you posted and go to your site.

Facebook is terrific, but I use it for personal matters, and don't like to mix it with business. For professional matters, Linked In is okay, but its interface is not nearly as "rich" or engaging as Facebook.
