Have I done this right

Postby leerees » Mon Nov 09, 2009 1:47 am

I've put the mods on from this site, my site is located at http://www.pofusers.com

I was wondering if some of you more seasoned seo'ers could take a look at my site and tell me if it's seo'd ok?

It's been live 2 months now and has around 150 pages spidered in google.

Url rewriting looks ok, but you really should install the zero duplicate and set its post redirection option to at least "guests".
Also, you have to make up your mind about the www prefix, you linked here with it, while your forum does not use it in links.
So make sure you have the phpBB Server and Cookie settings you want and implement the www prefix redirection accordingly to prevent mass duplicates.

Last but not least, do not implement the robots.txt (as it is the case right now) before at least two month will have passed after the zero duplicate activation.

Hi Admin,

Many thanks for the reply and more importantly, many thanks for php-seo! I had the option in the php-seo tab to enable zero dupe, so I've switched it on with guest redirection.

I actually would prefer a www. so I'm going set it in the server settings tab, Should I also set force server url to yes?

One more thing, Am I correct in assuming I also need to edit .htacces so that google wont be affected by the change or does php-seo edit this it'sself:

Code: Select all
RewriteBase /
# HERE IS A GOOD PLACE TO FORCE CANONICAL DOMAIN
# RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^pofusers\.com$ [NC]
# RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://pofusers.com/$1 [QSA,L,R=301]

Yes forcing server var can be a good thing, but it should not matter in the normal run.

Just be careful about the "CANONICAL DOMAIN" bit in the .htaccess, you must update your server config, and then the .htaccess to have the proper code, the one you quoted is meant to drop the www prefix. So do this, and then un-comment the two lines (removing the # at the beginning). Should be it ;)

Yes, it' the idea;)
Just make sure that your server returns the proper headers, eg http 301, for redirected urls : http://web-sniffer.net/

Everything seems ok, url rewriting works well, the www prefix is forced well (http://web-sniffer.net/?url=pofusers.com) and the zero duplicate is activated (with appropriate post redirection : http://web-sniffer.net/?url=www.pofuser ... ml%23p1551) ;)
