After quite a long time waiting for all our community, the phpBB SEO Team is very proud to announce you that GYM sitemaps & RSS is now publicly available
We have worked hard to end up what started with the phpBB2 version : a very optimized and fully modular design
The mod is organized around a common core handling several type of outputs (Google sitemaps, RSS ...) which are themselves handling modules (forum for now).
The great interest of all this is that all modules (for example RSS forum) now can have it's own ACP without any code modification.
Installing a module (for example for the phpBB gallery mod) will be as easy as uploading files and hit "install" in ACP, and modules can have as many configurable options as wished.
This makes it possible for developing module (RSS, sitemaps ...) for any php application installed on the same domain, even if it's using a separate DB (like wordpress could).
Module will directly take advantage of all the common feature (cache, styling etc ...) and will be integrated to the general outputs (sitemapIndex and main feeds), in addition to, of course, being able to generate as many sitemaps and feeds as wished.
GYM sitemaps & RSS has become pretty much limit less, and all this is done in a very optimized way. Building an RSS Feed will not make the mod include any sitemap code, the config is made so that rss config will not be queried for when building sitemaps, phpBB3's cache is used everywhere it can speed up the process etc etc ...
This very first public version is released as Beta because we are still going to implement new features, and because some features, such as Google sitemap ping are not activated yet.
It was thoroughly tested and validated by the phpBB SEO team, it is thus unlikely, even though not impossible, that some bug will be found.
Since it does barely imply changes in phpBB's code and since it does not alter the phpBB tables, there is no particular risk to try it right now on your forum.
It is of course and as always when installing a mod recommended to make a full backup (files + DB) before you install it.
Update will most likely occur more often until the first stable release, but will be pretty easy (file upload for the most, eventually reset of the GYM config)
It is planned to add an HTML output type to build HTML sitemaps kind of like mx sitemaps was doing for phpBB2.
This version includes XML and TXT sitemaps modules to build and integrate sitemaps from valid sitemaps and or text url lists.
These two modules includes interesting feature such as robots.txt parsing or last mod date (re) generation for all links and more.
