The decision has been taken to enforce signature and www profile linking rules on this site.

You should now strictly follow the signature rules.

This mean, you should at least have posted a 100 posts before you can use your signature privilege.
This could seem a bit too much posts, but, this is as well the only way to keep the Good quality of the backlinks provided to our dear members.
As you may have noticed, some user are tempted to just post a single message and never read the answer or even come back just because they know it will be a good Backlink within a short period of time.
Our shared interest is to keep up a good quality in posting and to avoid spammers.
This being said, you should not try to post one hundred post as fast as possible, a hundred post is far enough to figure out one's goals.
Do not forget signature privileges can be removed any time, and it's not so good to loose hundreds of backlinks at once.

This is a way to thank real users (not spammers) for their involvement in this community. A great thing for true users, as one hundred more backlinks on a well spidered web site is a real nice thing.

Concerning the www profile link, the decision is 50 posts before it will show up. Same reasons as above, but you'll have those backlinks (again very good ones) faster

Due to an increasing spam harassment these past months, the decision has been taken to limit the number of active links a new user may add in his messages. From now on, new user will have to post 10 messages before they will be able to add more than one active link in a post. You will still be able to add more URLs in your messages (for example to link to a page of your site to get support) but you will have to un-activate them by adding an hyphen ("-") at the beginning.
Examples :

• -www.example.com
• -http://www.example.com
• -http://sudomain.example.com

We hope you understand we all need to fight again spam, the final solution would be to totally disable signature and www link, and to limit active links in post to zero, or to use a nofollow meta tag, but the project is really to help out Search Engine Optimizing, so ...

This has to be said, for this growing community's best.

Hi I guess you shud also have an option to enable signatures for those users who use your MOD and have provided a link to your website from theirs. Otherwise these people will get demoralised and may remove your link.

Well, using the great mods I propose here should be enough to give a link back.

I mean, this is the price to pay to really avoid spam and to preserve the Backlink quality to our members. It's not a fantasy, when this was decided we had already like 6 or 7 manually registered fake user with porn or trash com signatures per week, it dropped to one or two, so I guess it's being useful.

I know it can look a bit rude, but quality is not only a sweet thing.

And, users can take advantage of the phpBB SEO directory and present their project before they reach the required amount of posts, so it's not like there is no way to directly have Good backlinks.

Anyway, all of this is about fair exchange, people thinking the asked backlink is too much and would prefer to see this site spammed and providing low quality backlink did not get the point of all this I am afraid.

I mean, a link back is nothing compared to be visible this much in search engines. This is the kind of investment none will regret, I am sure.

And 50 post is more or less the amount of post you'll reach if you really want to understand the minimum amount of things when you decide to install the phpBB SEO full toolkit. One hundred will be for if you get involved a bit and is far from hard to honestly reach.

If we take your case, you've reached 25 message and just made it to install the most of it. I know the example does not apply because you're part of the first beta users with direct signature privileged, but if you post a report, which will help you out and present us a bit your project, I am sure that you'll reach 50 in now time while learning a lot of stuff. One hundred is just one step above.

The idea is as well to thank users who get a little involved with Good quality, thus not given like this, backlinks.

I mean, even without any limit you'd have to post some messages to get backlinks. Here it's only meant to avoid linking for one or two posters.

If you consider that templates get backlinks, translations gets backlinks, phpBB get backlinks, and none of them is making it possible for your forum to get properly spidered and Ranked ... It's not a bad investment at all.
The asked backlinks is not something not to be happy of according to me, it's just a warranty these mods will be kept developed and updated and that support will continue here. Not fair you say ?

I mean, it's very clear, it's a licence requirement, anyone not ok with this can try to find better SEO mods, my humble opinion is the deal is fair, user gets more (if not a lot more) visitors thanks to the work released here, and they help back a bit with a small link which does not cost anything.

As you can see things like theses needs a lot of time to dev, so this site need to be working for this, we do not ask for money, but for backlinks, not that much IMHO.

Congrats. Maybe in those spesific posts, at the time, your Signature was not activated yet in your profile.

dcz, a small suggestion about new members posting a fake signiture. Maybe you have already thought about it. To install an MOD that does not allow to post key words such as "www" and "http" until "x" amount of posts. Allowing only domain extentions, maybe, for legit help/comments or concerns with your MOD's., fixes and add-ons

Hopefully not, but IMO better then having to manually warn and edit a post with fake sigs. I have witnessed this site become bigger and popular since i've joined and along with popularity, comes the spammers. Just throwing a suggestion out there In the end, of course, it is up to dcz.

Then Peter77's idea could be interesting, but, all is really required is team recruiting and some active moderation.

Yes this project has grown up and it is time now to properly organize the forums. As you may already know, I had some IRL matter this fall, but it's going to be different this winter, for the phpBB SEO project's best.
For example, the sitemap module will be released in a dedicated forum so that we'll be able to talk about every type of subject related to using and installing the module.
It will be more or less the case with all important modules, needing the covering of more topics than a single thread can handle.
Things like this, and the most important : team recruiting.
I'll post an announce about how I plan to organize several groups among the team and how I'll make this comply with this project general principle, things must go both ways between the project and the members, the web site and the phpBB SEO team.
