move .htacces to sub directory

How do i move the .htaccess file to the same directory as the forums because whilst its at the site route it affects my main website............

Web Addresses ??

Does this mod allow it to rewrite URL entries within posts ? Also im having a nightmare problem where i can only see the phpBB SEO Class settings in the ACP i used the premod to install it all, also i cant understand the sitemap thing it got so confusing i uninstalled it haha i am not good with this...

Ok it doesnt work in either location and also the slahes make no oods, the host told me mod_rewrite is on but im going to go back and get them to check because its not working still.

Would anyone be prepared to take my login details and see if they can make it work?

Thanks very much for your help. sadly even the slashes made no difference :-(

Just says page cannot be found, not sure what else i can do :S

Ok i ran the .htaccess save feature, copied it from the cache folder to the forum root and then it took the whole site down with a FORBIDDEN 404 error, is this because the original .htaccess had access rules applied in it or something?
