How to obtain more yahoo traffic? how to rank better?

Postby Darth Pincho » Fri Aug 31, 2007 4:10 pm

Hi, have done many improvemnts in google rankings. But besides i have indexed on yahoo twice the pages i have indexed on google, my yahoo traffic is almost insignificant.

Which are the main factors used by yahoo in order to rank a page? Why im not getting significant visitors from yahoo?

Any idea to improve on yahoo rankings without affect google rankings?

Have you sumbmited feeds to Yahoo's site explorer? you can manage pages in there https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/mysites I manage rss feeds and sitemaps there.

Here you can submit other pags on your site as well
https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit

What about the GYM sitemaps MOD. that is very useful to have. Submitting the urllist.php and sitemaps to yahoo helps a lot.
It seems yahoo will take anything it can get.

I hope that helps.

Ive already do that. In fact i have like 24.000 indexed pages in yahoo and 10.000 indexed in google. And google provides 75% of my traffic ans yahoo only a ridiculous 3%.

Try site:tupincho.net in yahoo

That's more or less the general case, Google provides a lot more visitors than the other search engine in most cases. That's why it's so important to us.

There is nothing really specific to be done to be well ranked in yahoo, what is good for Google will be for yahoo.

Subscribing to the yahoo directory will for sure help out to see your site indexed in yahoo, if not already, but it won't necessarily bring more visitors.

Well i have 24000 pages indexed now in yahoo, so i see no reason for directory paid submission. The problem is the traffic.

According to alexa yahoo have more traffic than google. I can understand taht google tecnology is better and bla bla bla. But 75% vs 3% is a brutal breach.

How can the most viewed search engine in the world porive only 3% of my visits and the 3rd one (google) provide the 75%, the numbers are too much far away. Probably im doing something wrong.

I recently do this modifications in order to get better rankings:
- use <h1></h1> tags in all my articles titles
- Remove sitename for description and title and use keyword rich phrase.
- Start to use bold and italics in my unique content to put more weight on keywords.

I hope yahoo like this and send more visitors. But now i have to wait reindexation of all the pages to see changes... jejeje

That's how brutal it is. I'm not saying that it's the case for all websites, but for sure it's how yahoo ranks in referral for many.

Talking about yahoo.com to be the first website in traffic according to alexa, msn second and Google only third, the thing is this is far from meaning that yahoo and msn are the most used Search Engine.
Actually, yahoo and msn have developed many services, and are using a portal since a long time, where Google only show a search box.

So it's pretty obvious that Google is far the most used Search Engine worldwide.

Your findings are consistent with mine. Google's incoming traffic dwarfs the combined totals of Yahoo! and MSN. It's quite puzzling; Yahoo's legions of bots lounge about my site for hours, and for what? Its index is slow to update and it's incomplete, despite submitting sitemaps. Yahoo and MSN may be top ranked portals, but the quality of their searchs and incoming traffic? Barely worth the server load. I really don't get what their problem is...

Don't ask me about the heavily advertised "Ask" search engine.
